July 26: Eric Bibb

Eric Bibb

When he was eleven years old, guitar player Eric Bibb received some advice from a slightly more experienced picker and fellow musician named Bob Dylan: "Keep it simple, forget all that fancy stuff." While his guitar technique may have adhered to that advice, Eric Bibb's musical career has been anything but simple. Bibb spent more than three decades developing a reputation as one of the finest folk-blues balladeers of his generation. Over the years, his multi-faceted career has taken him from his native New York City to work and live in Sweden, England, and other far-flung places.

His live sound is a diverse mix of gospel, soul, folk, and blues that pushes genre boundaries to find common ground and connecting roots. An accomplished recording artist with an extensive back catalogue, 2008 saw Bibb's most impressive release to date: the critically-acclaimed Get Onboard featuring guest appearances by Bonnie Raitt and Ruthie Foster.
